This is a 20 minute audio of the February 19, 2013 School Board Meeting. This audio starts 53 minutes into the meeting. The full audio of the meeting can be accessed on the district’s web page.

The Assessment and Evaluation Department of the Salt Lake City School District is seated above giving their presentation to the school board. Looking at the camera is the director of the department, Dr. Jo Ellen Shaeffer and seated to her right is Christine Marriott, Data Coordinator for the district. Both of them are well respected within education circles in the state of Utah.

At 0:01-Christine Marriott, Data Coordinator for the district is speaking as the audio begins.

At 2:35– into the audio, I ask the question as to why westside schools have a higher rating of ineffective teachers than does eastside schools. Ms. Marriott then responds as quoted in the Tribune and Deseret News article. (see articles in this blog)

At 10:03– Board Member Heather Bennett mentions the (5 years ago) report that she brought up in the January 2012 meeting. The report supposedly said that there was no difference in length of service between east and westside teachers. Ms. Marriott question the veracity of the report.

At 13:20– I ask the question I ask the question WHAT SUPPORT AND INTERVENTIONS ARE WE GOING TO GIVE OUR WESTSIDE TEACHERS?

At 15:50-Board member Dr. Nelson makes the comment about westside students and then morphed my initial question into claiming that I said: “horrible teacher” & “No effective teachers on the westside”.

At 17:50 Vice President want to move on and then the superintendent claims he is going to answer my question but ends up talking more about the integrity of the data.

My initial question about what support are we going to give our westside teachers, goes unanswered.

And as the John Flores Article suggest –the circling of the wagons has begun….
