Speaker Lockhart<\/p><\/div>\n

The title of this blog posting is a partial quote taken from of a letter sent to the Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives by superintendent Withers, school board president, vice president and business administrator of the Salt Lake City School District.<\/p>\n

On November 20, 2013<\/strong>, I submitted a 15 page letter to Speaker Lockhart who is serving as the co-chair of the Utah Legislative Task Force on Education. The letter consist of six recommendations that I believe, if implemented would go a long way in improving the educational outcomes for the students in my community.<\/p>\n

On December 17, 2014<\/strong>, the superintendent, school board president, school board vice president and school district business administrator fired off a letter to the Speaker of the House in which they characterize me as being uncivilized and a liar. They also made a feeble attempt to state that they are all about \u201copenness<\/span>\u201d in the Salt Lake City School board meetings.<\/p>\n

As one observer pointed out:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhich reality of theirs, is the truth? <\/span>\r\n Are they (Superintendent & Board President) <\/span>\r\n really open to discuss the educational outcomes <\/span>\r\n of ethnic minority students as they claim, <\/span>\r\n or are they going to continually <\/span>\r\n attack your character <\/span>\r\n every time you broach the subject?<\/span>\r\n Both realities cannot be correct\u201d<\/span><\/pre>\nOn December 23, 2013<\/strong>, I sent a letter to the Speaker, making the point that the tone of the letter sent by the superintendent and board president only served to underscore the problem with public education in the state of Utah.<\/p>\nPDF LINK: Superintendent \/ Board President Letter to the Speaker of the House (December 17, 2014)<\/a><\/p>\n
