The embedded video is a tribute to Frank Cordova by Janice Schroeder read by Archie Archuleta in March of 2013.

Frank Cordova, an advocate, mentor and friend to generations of Chicano and Latino students, passed away having battled cancer this past year. He was a tireless champion for our community and many of us benefited from his efforts.

In Utah, Frank was the vanguard of the Chicano movement. He was encouraging, realistic and courageous in his fight for educational equity. It most certainly was my honor to have known him and to have been taught by him.

It amazes me that the river of the struggle for educational Civil Rights has continued to flow. Frank gave us all the lift and the vision that one person could make a profound difference. We are all better people for having known him. More importantly he encouraged us all, principally by his example, but also by his support and encouragement.

“I will miss his advocacy, his sense of justice and his support. My condolences to the Dahlia and their family and to many of us who knew him and loved him.”

Christina Castillo Robles said it best in a facebook entry:

“Today we lost a warrior in the great fight for La Raza. But as a legends do, you will live on in the hearts and minds of your many foot soldiers. Thank you Frank Cordova for teaching me the importance of luchando por la gente.”
