In the March 19, 2013 School Board meeting the Superintendent broaches the subject of the legislative task force. In that meeting he gives the task force a negative spin:
“…Senate Bill 169, Education Task Force, I’m worried about that one, this is the one where essentially they are saying so what if the governor has an education excellence in education commission for the last three years, so what if senators and representatives have been a part of that, we think we should have our own task force…the task force is legislatures only”
In the audio, you will hear me ask him for clarification about the purpose of the task force as he understands it. I did not share his conclusions that the formation of this task force would have the negative impact that he is suggesting.
This part is edited out of the audio on the school district web page.
McKell Withers, appeared before the task force on June 26, 2013 and spoke to them in his capacity as President, Utah School Superintendents Association. In his introductory remarks he states:
“…I very deeply much appreciate the request…”
Partial Audio of McKell’s introduction remarks where he is now expressing appreciation to the committee that he once expressed ‘worry’ about its formation.
